I don’t know what I would do without Pinterest. Or how I lived without it for so long. Being the planner that I am I started planning our boys Dr Seuss Thing 1 & 2 Twin First Birthday Party in November when their birthday is in March.
Whoa, crazy lady, that’s 4 months for a birthday party?!?!
I know, it does sound CRAZY, but you see I’m never guaranteed time to get things done. I have to hope and plan to get them done around the circus shows my kiddos like to put on. Plus I had Christmas planning I was doing in tandem at that time as well. So yes I started in November, judge if you want.
Picking a Theme
First thing I did was to nail down a theme. I wanted something to do with twins, I wanted something that I could carry the party decor over to themed food, and I wanted the theme to be easy to make, but not so easy to go and buy from your big box store. I wanted to make it handmade. I decided pretty quickly after seeing all the options, and the absolute cuteness that the boys would be having a Dr Seuss Thing 1 and 2 twin first birthday party. It was hard to focus on Christmas planning with this decision made and ready for the next steps of planning, but I put my head down and got it done. Boom.
So here is my Pinterest board with all the goodies. 4 months worth of searching and browsing done for you. You’re welcome.
After Christmas was over (which seemed to fly by WAYYYYYYY faster than usual, I blaming the boys for keeping me so busy that I didn’t have time to think about what day it was…….) I started really diving into planning. I figured if I could focus on planning their Dr Seuss Thing 1 and 2 birthday, that I wouldn’t be so heartbroken that my last babies were about to be….. TODDLERS. Twin Toddlers at that. I.WAS.NOT.READY. I’m still not, and they are almost 18 months now. I tear up on time hop ALL THE TIME. Bittersweet looking at those memories, gets me in the mom feels. Moving on from my whining……
You have to have the Right Tools
I have wanted a vinyl cutter since well they came out. I’m cheap though and didn’t want to buy one. I didn’t want someone else to buy it for me either. I just wanted the company to magically send me one without me ever telling anyone besides my husband and besties that I wanted it. Silly crazy lady talk, I know. So I started researching (pinning of course!!!) and decided to take a baby step and get the Silhouette Portrait. Amazon had it on sale for 129. TAKE MY MONEY!!!! I impatiently waited for it ship prime. 48 hours is a long time when you are inspired.
Wouldn’t you know it the boys get sick, I get sick, my husband gets sick and Alena gets sick the day it comes to my front door?!?!?!?! We had a stomach virus hit the house. One by one we each had it for 24 hours. So yeah, that was 5 days extra of waiting to even open it. I couldn’t neglect my sick family to play with a toy…… Mom of the year. Well the day when no one was throwing up, or sick, I had to clean and go grocery shopping and well life happened and it sat in its box. FINALLY after having it in the house for 6 days I finally got some free time during nap time to open that bad boy up!!!!
It was Christmas, the angels sang and I got down to business like a ninja, because at that point you didn’t know whether the boys would sleep for 30 mins or 2 hours. I had researched enough before I bought it, you wouldn’t have known it was my first time. I was cutting within 10 mins and designing the boys Dr Seuss Thing 1 and 2 birthday decor within 20 mins. Of course the boys must have sensed that I was busy doing something because they woke up about 45 mins after they went down.
So that is how it started. It’s how everything started really. You wouldn’t be here reading this had I not bought that machine to make the boys Dr Seuss Thing 1 and 2 decorations for their first birthday. I’m glad I decided to spend my money and create something I could be proud of.
Here are some of the items I created for their party. Check back soon for them to be available in the store for purchase!!!
